We provide same-day emergency plumbing service during business hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. If a plumbing emergency hits during those hours, call (980) 276-0199 immediately - we prioritize emergencies on the same-day schedule and dispatch from either our Hickory office at 926 2nd Street NE or our Conover branch, whichever is closer.
If it is after hours or a weekend, our office is closed. The steps below in section 2 will limit damage until we open. Shut off your main water valve, document everything for insurance, and call us at 8 AM. We will prioritize you on the morning schedule.
Call us if you have any of these:
A slow drain in one fixture is not an emergency. Call during business hours and we will schedule a normal service visit. If you are unsure, call (980) 276-0199 and our dispatcher will triage on the phone.
These 5 steps work whether you are calling us during business hours or waiting until 8 AM after an overnight emergency. The same actions limit damage and protect you while we get to you.
Locate your main shutoff valve - typically near the water meter, in a basement, or in a utility closet. Turn it clockwise until fully closed. This stops active flooding immediately. For Hickory homes on city water, the curb stop is at the street. For well systems, kill power to the pump at the breaker AND close the tank shut-off. If you cannot find the shutoff, call (980) 276-0199 during business hours while you search and we will walk you through it.
If water is near outlets, fixtures, or the water heater, trip the main breaker (or the affected circuit) at the panel. Switch a gas water heater to "pilot," or trip the electric heater's breaker. This prevents the heating element from running dry and prevents electrical hazards.
Phone photos of every wet surface, the source if you can see it, and the time on a clock. Most NC homeowner policies cover sudden discharge (a burst pipe or a water heater rupture). Slow leaks and wear-and-tear typically are not covered. Date-stamped photos are essential for claims. Do not discard damaged materials until your insurer approves.
Towels and buckets where the water is going. Move valuables, electronics, rugs, and documents up and out of the wet zone. If the water is sewage, do not handle it without gloves; close interior doors to limit the affected area.
Open a faucet at the lowest point in the house (utility sink, outdoor hose bib) to release residual pressure once the main is closed. Then call (980) 276-0199. During business hours we dispatch from Hickory or Conover and will give you a realistic ETA. After hours, leave a message and call back at 8 AM - we prioritize overnight emergencies on that morning's schedule.
Most often happens during or right after a hard freeze. Copper or PEX in unheated crawlspaces, attics, or vented wall cavities is the typical failure point. We isolate the failed section, replace the run, pressure-test, and verify no secondary damage to drywall, insulation, or framing. Catch this fast - uncontrolled water damage compounds within hours.
Tank water heater: usually a failed heating element (electric) or thermocouple/pilot assembly (gas). Tankless water heater: most commonly a sensor, ignition, or flow issue. We diagnose and quote before doing any repair. As Navien Service Specialists, we can read and clear most Navien error codes (E003 ignition, E012 flame loss, E110 fan, E351 water pressure) on the same call.
If you have sewage in tubs and toilets at the same time, the main line is blocked. We snake or hydro-jet the line, then run a camera if needed to find the root intrusion, broken section, or scale build-up that caused it. Older Westmont and Brookford homes from the 1950s-60s often still have cast-iron mains that scale and crack at the 60-70 year mark.
Leave the house and call 911 plus the gas utility first - safety before service. Once the area is cleared, call (980) 276-0199 for the repair. We hold NC plumbing licensing for gas line repair and pull the appropriate permit.
City water customers: usually a main-line break, sometimes a shutoff issue. Call the utility to check for an outage first. Well water customers: typically a well pump, pressure switch, or pressure tank failure. We carry common control boxes, pressure switches (Square D 30/50, 40/60), and check valves on every truck. See well pump repair in Hickory.
Shut the supply valve at the base of the toilet first. If multiple drains are also slow or backed up, it is a main-line issue (see Sewer Backup above). If only one toilet, it is most likely a fixture or branch-line clog. We clear it and inspect the rest of the line so it does not recur.
Warm spot on the floor, water-bill spike, mildew in unexpected places, or cracks in slab finish. We detect with acoustic equipment and infrared, then discuss reroute, spot repair, or repipe options depending on the home's age and material. Insurance often covers slab-leak damage if the leak is sudden.
From our Hickory office at 926 2nd Street NE and our Conover branch, most emergency calls in 28601, 28602, and 28603 are dispatched within a 60 to 90 minute window during business hours. Mountain View, Falling Creek, and Sherrills Ford are typically same-day, scheduled by the dispatcher. Rural Catawba County and outlying Lincoln/Iredell border addresses may run slightly longer but still same-day where possible.
About honesty on timing: if you call at 7:30 AM, we are rolling by 8:15. If you call at 4:45 PM with a non-life-safety emergency, the dispatcher will triage on the phone and may schedule first thing the next business morning rather than dispatch into the evening. We will tell you on the call - we do not string you along.
During business hours, our same-day coverage from Hickory and Conover offices:
Burke County edges (Connelly Springs, Drexel) and parts of Iredell are case-by-case - the dispatcher will confirm on the phone.
Same-day emergency dispatch Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Family-owned, licensed, BBB accredited.
